More than 250 neighborhood leaders, volunteers and partners of Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago (NHS) attended NHS’ Neighborhood Leadership Awards- "Leading the Way Home" on October 18 at the Dusable Museum of African American History. The event was hosted again by NHS’ Community Banks Partnership. Members of the partnership donated items to the silent auction and raffle, which raised over $2,200 to support NHS’ programs.
At the event eight community leaders representing NHS’ target neighborhoods were honored with the 2011 Neighborhood Leadership Award for their dedication, commitment and inspiration to the communities they call Home.
Inspiring, individual videos showcased each hero’s strength, passion and commitment to making a difference in Chicago and Elgin neighborhoods. Honored this year were Deandre Estes, Auburn Gresham, Carole Grant Hall, West Englewood, Father John Tilford, Back of the Yards/Garfield Boulevard, Father Tony Pizzo and Imelda Salazar from St. Rita of Cascia Church, Chicago Lawn/Gage Park, Home Depot, NHS of the Fox Valley, Kristin Dean, North Lawndale, Salim Al Nurridin, Roseland, and Ed Boone, West Humboldt.
