CHRIS SMITH
Neighborhood Director
NHS of Chicago Roseland Office
"We are not just a housing organization, we are a neighborhood resource," is the motto that guides the work of NHS Roseland's Neighborhood Director Chris Smith. Since 2005, Chris has worked to establish partnerships with neighborhood entities to substantially increase the Roseland office's loan services, saved hundreds of homeowners from losing their homes to foreclosure, served as a community resource in a variety of areas and strives to ensure that the Roseland office provides residents with exemplary customer service.
Chris served as a senior project manager, development manager and project director of community development and housing initiatives at The Community Builders, the City of Chicago, Cook County Development Corporation and the Chicago Housing Authority prior to joining NHS. In these leadership roles, he was responsible for designing, evaluating and executing multi-unit and single-family housing strategies, as well as affordable housing projects that revitalized and benefited a plethora of communities in Chicago.
Chris earned a Master of Science degree in Urban Planning and Policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Bachelor of Science degree from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. His professional affiliations include the American Planning Association, Urban Land Institute, National Organization of Redevelopment Officials and the Affordable Housing Finance Commission.
