Freddie Mac Borrower Help Center

Freddie Mac Borrower Help Center

NHS of Chicago teamed up with Freddie Mac in January 2010 to open the NHS of Chicago Freddie Mac Borrower Help Center.  The help center is a place where borrowers with delinquent Freddie Mac-owned mortgages can get free and confidential one-on-one help to assess their financial situation and choose a solution that is appropriate for their needs.

In assisting borrowers, NHS of Chicago incorporates holistic financial counseling principles which look at a borrower’s total financial picture including all outstanding debt and credit issues, such as mortgage loans, credit card debts or auto loans that may also be causing financial distress.  Counselors provide one-on-one assistance to help borrowers apply for mortgage modifications or other foreclosure avoidance solutions if they are eligible, and if so, get the documents needed to move an application forward to help borrowers effectively connect with their mortgage servicer.

During a financial review session, a counselor will:

• Review income, expenses, and debt.

• Help find solutions to financial and mortgage challenges.

• Discuss options to avoid foreclosure, including the federal Home

Affordable Modification Program or other options.
