NHS unveils new Contract Buyers League Exhibit

The Contract Buyers League (CBL) was a collective of African-American Chicago homeowners originating in North Lawndale who, in the late 1960s, protested the exploitative sale of homes to blacks through usurious contract selling. To commemorate this amazing group and their story, NHS VISTA John Wolf developed narrative content and graphics for 14 display panels that NHS unveiled at the Homan Square Community Center in North Lawndale on Thursday, July 16.


NHS partners with local realtors to help make homeownership a reality

The NHS South Suburban office held a “Coffee Talk” seminar for realtors on September 16, in East Hazel Crest. Roberta Cosey and Jonathan Dyer from the NLS Lending Team, along with Sherry Smith of Homeownership, engaged in discussion with realtors and area stakeholders over coffee on the products and services offered by NLS/NHS and how these services could meet the needs of their clients.


NHS brings out the community in Roseland

The Roseland staff held two outreach events in Maple Park and one in North Pullman. The Maple Park events included a weatherization and energy efficiency workshop and a general information workshop explaining MMRP programs. In North Pullman, the Roseland staff held an open house/block party.


NHS hosts annual Fall NeighborWorks Day

NHS of the Fox Valley held its 2015 NeighborWorks Day on September 26, which consisted of a resource fair and volunteer painting projects. The resource fair saw NHS working side-by-side with eight local community resources to provide: housing services & grants; children’s activities & food zone; and emergency preparedness & safety awareness.
